Access Statement

When I sat down and wrote this, it appeared to me to be quite unwelcoming and unfriendly. Please accept that it is a list of statements of fact, and as such cannot be written with an awful lot of warmth.  We do try and do everything we can to make all of our guests equally welcome.

Having said that our accomodation was designed and built some thirty years ago when people were possibly less enlightened to the requirements of others.   If there is anything you are unsure of, please give us a ring and we will offer whatever advice we can.  In general rooms 4 and 5 are on the ground floor and as such are best suited to guests with access issues, they are however fairly compact and getting around them in a wheelchair could be challenging.  Rooms 6 and 7 whilst being upstairs are more spacious.   Room 8 is generally not suited to guests with access issues, being both upstairs and compact.

1.Our drive is of pea shingle and has a 10 to 15 degree gradient.

2. There is one step into the house.  We have a portable aluminium ramp for use by guests, because this rests on the inner part of the door it cannot be left permanantly in place, we cannot garuntee to be around 24 hours of the day to assist with this.

3. Room 4  (double bed) is directly in front of the front door, door is of standard width and has a door closer.  This is a fire door, and as such is of a fair weight and cannot be propped open.  There is insufficient room for a wheelchair to access one side of the room, generally this room could be described as compact.  There is a standard door into the bathroom, there is insuffcieint space in the bathroom to turn a wheelchair around. Standard height wash basin and toilet are fitted, there is a hand rail to the wall adjacent to the inner portion of the bath.  There is a shower over the bath.

4. Room 5 (twin beds)  is on the same level as the front door, door is of standard width and has a door closer.  This is a fire door, and as such is of a fair weight and cannot be propped open.  There is insufficient room for a wheelchair to access all of the room, generally this room could be described as compact. There is a standard door into the bathroom, there is insuffcieint space in the bathroom to turn a wheelchair around. Standard height wash basin and toilet are fitted.  There is a shower over the bath.

5. Room 6 (double and single bed with guest bed underneath) is up one flight of stairs, door is of standard width and has a door closer.  This is a fire door, and as such is of a fair weight and cannot be propped open.  There is sufficient room for a wheelchair to access most of the room, generally this room could be described as fairly spacious.  There is a standard door into the bathroom, there is suffcieint space in the bathroom to turn a wheelchair around. Standard height wash basin and toilet are fitted.  There is a shower over the bath.

6. Room 7  (double and single bed with guest bed underneath) is up one flight of stairs, door is of standard width and has a door closer.  This is a fire door, and as such is of a fair weight and cannot be propped open.   There is sufficient room for a wheelcahir to access most of the room, generally this room could be described as fairly spacious.  There is a standard door into the bathroom, there is suffcieint space in the bathroom to turn a wheelcahir around. Standard height wash basin and toilet are fitted.  There is a shower over the bath.

7. Room 8 (twin beds) is up one flight of stairs, door is of standard width and has a door closer.  This is a fire door, and as such is of a fair weight and cannot be propped open.  This room is very compact and would offer limited comfort to a wheel chair user.  There is a standard door into the shower room, there is insuffcieint space in the shower room for a wheelchair to enter. Standard height wash basin and toilet are fitted.  There is a compact walk in shower.

8. The Dining Room is on the ground floor, it is accessed through a fire door which can only be propped open when we are serving food.

9. The conservatory is also on the ground floor, there is a small step between the dining room and the conservatory (less than two inches).

10. The Garden  this is accessed from the conservatory up five steps, it would be very difficult for someone of limited mobility to access the Garden.
